Several years ago, I was an associate pastor in a small town. I would often stop at one local gas station or another but tended to be a regular at the Exxon station. Several weeks went by and I had not gone to that station and the attendant behind the counter proceeded to ask me this question: where have you been? Are you running on fumes? He was referring to my car since I hadn’t gotten gas there in sometime.
I’m thinking that there are times that God can ask us the same question. There are seasons in our lives when we put God on the back burner and do spend time with Him. Without time in God’s presence it can feel like we are running on fumes. Psalm 46:10 says: “Be still & know that I am God.” It is important to sit in God’s presence & surrender our lives to Him.
How full is your spiritual gas tank? Are you running on fumes?
